Welcome to Southern In The Midwest

Hi there!  Thank you so much for stopping by to check out my inaugural blog post!  I’m Jennifer.  It’s nice to meet you.

Let me tell you a little about myself as we embark on this blog journey. I say “we” because I do hope you’ll subscribe to my newsletter and follow me on Instagram and/or Facebook.

Who Am I?

I’m Jennifer, a 40-something southern born and raised girl now living in the midwest.  Hence the name of my blog, Southern in the Midwest.  Pretty cool, right? We can blame the hubs for taking me out of the south.  But you know what they say, “You can take the girl out of the South, but you can’t take the South out of the girl.”

I am the daughter of two amazing parents who live in Statesville, NC.  A wife, to my husband, Paul who is a great General Surgeon.  A mama to five children and a Mimi to four, soon to be five grandchildren.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Sacred Music from Gardner Webb University (Go Bulldogs!), a Master’s degree in Music Therapy from Radford University and I am a certified ADHD coach. You can check out my ADHD coaching website here.

I’m a follower of Jesus and love singing on the worship team at my church.

Oh, I’m also a vegetarian.

Why Am I Starting A Blog?

That’s a good question? Why am I starting this blog?  It’s not like I don’t have enough to do already.  Can I get an “amen” from all you mamas out there?

Well, here’s the deal – I love meeting people and getting to know others.  I like to talk and I like to shop. People have always commented on my outfits, jewelry, makeup, and my home décor, so I thought, “Why not combine both – talking and shopping?”

And then there’s the fact that my husband hopes to retire in five years. (He’s older than me – that’s a story for another blog post.) He’s always joking that when he retires he wants me to support him in the way in which he is accustomed (LOL), so I’m hoping that within five years the blog will have taken off and will be making some money.  So between my coaching business and the blog, hopefully, the hubs can retire in “style.” (Ha!)

What’s the Blog Going to be About?

Southern In The Midwest is a lifestyle blog for women forty and over.  But I consider myself a young, hip 40-something, (I’m hoping my three daughters will agree) so younger women will likely relate to a lot of my posts too. I’ll be sharing what I like to call “functional fashion.”  Mainly reasonably priced everyday wear for moms and women.  I believe in getting dressed every day.  It makes such a difference in my attitude and productivity.

I’ll also share some beauty tips around make up, skincare and hair care.  I’m not a make up guru or a hair stylist, but I love taking care of my skin and putting my best face forward each day.

I’ll also share some decorating ideas – every day and seasonal as well as some occasional recipes. I’m not a huge fan of cooking but have fed my family for 20 plus years, so I must be doing something right.

And of course, everything will be written with a little Southern sass and charm!

Here’s a quote about my southern sass – I recently asked my dear friend, Joanne how she would describe me. She replied, “Kind-hearted with a hint of southern sass.”

Wanna hear something funny but true about my southern charm – I work in my husband’s practice two days a week as his medical assistant. Whenever we have a patient who doesn’t seem very talkative or maybe is a little grumpy, my practice manager tells me to be prepared to work my southern charm on them. And usually, by the time I come out of the room from getting their vitals, they’ve changed their tune. (LOL)

What Can You Expect During the Launch This Week?

I’ll be posting each day this week.  I really hope you’ll come back and visit to get a taste of Southern in the Midwest.

I’ll also be having some giveaways too! So be sure to come back each day to see what & how you can win.

I’d love for you to subscribe to my newsletter.  You won’t get an inbox full of emails from me saying, “Hey, check out my new blog post!” I mean, you will get emails about my new blog posts, but you’ll also get behind the scenes info – what products I’m trying out, blog posts topics I’m working on and I’ll be asking for your input on what you’d like to see more of.  Because without readers, the blog would be pointless.

So please join me on this blogging journey by subscribing to my newsletter and following me on social media!

Thanks for stopping by and welcome to Southern In The Midwest!
