Paperclip Chain Necklace Review

The paperclip chain necklace is on trend this season, so of course, I had to purchase one. 😁  I don’t jump on every fashion trend, but these necklaces have a classy style that will likely be around for a while. But there are so many to choose from how does a girl know which one to buy? Well, hopefully, I can help you out!

I purchased three different paperclip necklaces to see if there were any differences. And I also kept my eye out for them as I did some shopping this fall. Each necklace I purchased has a different price point, size, and quality. They were purchased from three separate stores – online jewelry store, Amazon, and Target. (The only affiliate link in this post is Amazon) So, let’s get started.

Brook & York Paperclip Necklace

  • Purchased From: Brook & York
  • Price: $60
  • Size of Paperclips: 5mm
  • Length of Necklace: 18″ with extender up to 2″
  • Material: 14 K gold plated brass
  • Manufactured in: USA
  • Closure: Lobster Claw Clasp
  • Overall Rating: Very Good
  • Brook & York also sales a choker for $54
  • My Review: This is a well-made necklace. The clips are rounded rather than flat which gives the necklace a more expensive, classic look. And I love that it is made in the USA. I did notice the clasp had a tendency to move from the back of my neck and to the sides while I was wearing it and I had to adjust it a few times. Otherwise, I’m pleased with my purchase and will be keeping this necklace for myself and have the matching bracelet on my Christmas wishlist. 😉

Barzel Necklace

  • Purchased From: Amazon
  • Price: $12.99
  • Size of Paperclips: 4mm (pretty small)
  • Length of Necklace: I purchased the 16″, but it also comes in 18″-24.” It does not have an extender chain.
  • Material: 18K Gold Plated (site says it is a high polish finish with a lifetime guarantee)
  • Manufactured in: Brazil
  • Closure: Lobster Claw Clasp
  • Overall Rating: Very Good
  • My Review: This quality of this necklace is very good. The clips are flat and the necklace has a daintier appearance than the Brook & York necklace. Because of the smaller clips, it can be a little difficult to recognize the paper clip design if you aren’t up close. I do like the shorter length of this necklace as it makes it a nice piece for layering. Due to the material, it is a little brighter gold color. Overall, I really like this necklace and will be keeping it for my teenage daughter.

Sugarfix by BaubleBar Necklace

  • Purchased From: Target
  • Price: $21.99
  • Size of Paperclips: 12mm
  • Length of Necklace: 17″ with an extender chain
  • Material: Nickel-free plated metal (brass)
  • Closure: Lobster Claw Clasp
  • Manufactured in: Imported (most likely China)
  • Overall Rating: Poor
  • My Review: The quality of this necklace is poor. When you pick it up the chains clang around and you can tell it is made from cheaper material. The clips are flat and several are cut at the top to put the necklace together. While I like the look of the larger clips, I would not have purchased this necklace if I wasn’t doing this review. In my opinion, it isn’t worth $21.99 plus tax. It definitely has the look of more costume style jewelry (which I usually like). I noticed it didn’t lay very nice when I wore it either. I will be returning this necklace.

Overall, I like both the Brook & York necklace and the one purchased from Amazon. If you want good quality with slightly larger clips and a classic look, I would purchase the one from Brook & York. However, if you prefer a daintier necklace, like my daughter, and don’t want to spend the extra money, then you will be perfectly pleased with the necklace from Amazon.

Other Paperclip Necklaces

Altar’d State & Madwell

Over the weekend I did a little shopping in Kansas City and looked for paperclip necklaces at different stores. I liked this one from Altar’d State for $19.95 and they also had this one in silver for the same price. Madwell also sold both gold and silver paperclip chain necklaces priced at $38.

BaubleBar has several paperclip chain necklaces as well. While the one from Target is a branch of BaubleBar, the brand Sugarfix is not as high quality as BaubleBar. Sugarfix was made to be sold at lower price points. I haven’t seen these necklaces in person, so I can’t guarantee the quality. I have bought from BaubleBar in the past and been pleased with my purchases. Below are some of the paper chain necklaces I liked:

Choices From BaubleBar

  • The Hera Necklace: The chains on this necklace look quite large if you’re looking for a bigger paperclip chain necklace. The price is $48. BaubleBar has the Hera Collection with smaller chains, bracelets, and even a ring to match as well as other items you might be interested in too. You can shop the complete collection here.
  • The Helena Necklace: Priced at $48, I really like the look of this paperclip chain necklace. It has two small gold beads in the middle section of the top and bottom of each chain. I think it gives it a classy look and it’s different from all the other paperclip chain necklaces out there. Which in my book is a bonus. I may have to purchase this one too as the clips are larger than the one I currently have. 😉 I girl can’t have too much jewelry, right?
  • Hit the Links Set: If you want a matching bracelet (which I do) the Hit the Links set is probably the way to go. It is an $86 value priced at $68.

I hope this review has been helpful. If there is anything you are interested in me reviewing, please comment below. And don’t forget to enter the contest below!

Have you jumped on the paper clip necklace trend? If so, where did you buys yours? Are you please with the quality?
