Studded and embellished sandals are all the rage this summer. And just because you see the millennials wearing them doesn’t mean the 40 and over crowd can’t rock some studs too. I mean, nothing says “sassy” like studs and embellishments! So I’ve gathered some studded & embellished sandals that I think can be worn by women over 40.
There are so many options for studded & embellished sandals this season. You can choose to go with the spike style studs, the rounded studs or the flat studs.
Once you know the style of stud you like, you can choose a larger stud or a smaller stud.
Then, choose your color – silver, gold or colored. Don’t worry, I’ll show you the different options below. By the end of this post, you’ll know what the different studs look like and which ones you like best. So let’s get started!

Clear Studded Sandals
Let’s start with the Steve Madden sandals you’re seeing everywhere, especially on the millennial crowd. Can we wear them over 40? Sure!
Steve Madden Embellished Sandals
I have 2 issues with these shoes.
1) Everyone and their brother have them. I like to be in style and on-trend, but if something seems to be overly popular I tend to avoid it. I don’t want to look like everybody else!
2) I’m a little hesitant to spend $70 on a pair of sandals that may not be “in” next year. But if you’re lucky you can find them on sale. And they’ve been sold out quite a few times so it can be hard to find them in stock.
Don’t want to spend that much money on trendy sandals, but love the shoes? How about these from Forever 21?
Would you splurge or save on these shoes?
Steve Madden Studded Wedge Sandals
Below are some other Steve Madden studded sandals. I think the wedge adds a classier, more mature look to them, so these might be a good compromise if you’re on the fence about studs on your shoes. They also come in colors other than clear. You can check them out at Nordstrom Rack.
Dolce Vita Studded Slides
I love shoes I can just slip my feet into. Don’t you? They’re so convenient and easy. Is it sad that I think about that when purchasing shoes? Anyway, I like the look of these slides by Dolce Vita. I like the more square toe, the snakeskin print on the insole, and the flatter studs. I think all these things give these embellished slides a more mature look. So if you’re not ready for full-on studs or refuse to wear the same sandals as 20-30-year-olds, these might be for you.
Now that we’ve covered the clear studded shoes, let’s move on to embellished and studded sandals in other colors. What about nude? I love a good nude sandal because they go with everything! Plus, the color is just classy.
Nude Studded & Embellished Sandals & Slides
Let’s start off with some cute nude options from Target.
Nude Sandal Options from Target
These Astrid Studded Strappy Sandals, which also come in black could be a nice compromise if you’re not sure about the clear color. The studs on these sandals are more flat and they also have the silver beading around the edges like the ever popular Steve Madden’s.
Another great nude sandal option from Target are these Emmy Studded Crossband slides. I love that the studs are flat and match the color of the shoe. This gives them a more mature look and a style that will last past this season. These sandals come in black as well.
The crossover style is flattering on almost all feet and you’ve got the convenience of sliding your foot right in the shoe.
March Fischer Nude Slides with Large Circular Studs
I absolutely love these slides by Marc Fischer. I think the large circular studs definitely give these sandals a more mature look. And even though we’re talking about nude sandals, these also come in 6 other colors including orange and blue! Talk about sassy!
Nine West Studded Gladiator Sandals
I love these studded gladiator sandals by Nine West. I like the mixture of the flat studs which are bigger in size and then the smaller raised studs.
I also like the addition of the muted neutral color and the silver & gold in the first pair, as well as the mix of ivory, black and snakeskin in the second pair. Both are great for a neutral sandal with a little more sass to them.
Black Studded & Embellished Sandals
You can never go wrong with black sandals, so let’s check out a few pairs below.
Sam Edelman Gianetta
You already know I like a slide on shoe. And don’t you love the silver beaded studs on this sandal?
Seven Dials Studded Espadrille
I love the studs around the edge of this sandal. An espadrille wedge is a sandal you can dress up or wear casual. These would be so cute with a midi or maxi dress.
Vince Camuto Studded & Embellished Gladiator Sandals
There is just something about a gladiator sandal that I love. I think it’s because it covers more of the top of my foot which has gotten bonier as I’ve gotten older. Although I’m showing this sandal in black, it also comes in brown too.
Notice the flatter studs. They don’t stand out as much which would make these a good option if you want to ease into an embellished sandal.
Are you comfortable wearing a studded or embellished sandal? If so, which type of stud is your favorite?
